Naman Dhir received his first opportunity to play for India in the 1st T20 of the 5-match series at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow and grabbed this golden opportunity with both hands by taking three crucial wickets for just 31 runs. He is now the third Indian spinner to get 3+ wickets on debut. Before this, Pragyan Ojha achieved this record against Bangladesh in 2009, and Axar Patel earned this against Zimbabwe way back in 2015. Dhir, who received his first ODI call-up at Thiruvananthapuram on September 27 during the first ODI in Kerala, obtained his T20I cap from fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.

The 25-year-old all-rounder delivered an amazing reply in this game, dismissing West Indies destructive batter Shai Hope after smashing a six at 11.3 overs. Then, after a few overs, Romario Shepherd hit a six off 13.1 overs; on the next ball, he lost his wicket. This same thing repeated when Shamar Springer smashed a six at 15.4 overs before Dhir obtained his wicket on the very next delivery and proved his consistent wicket-taking ability. Apart from this all-rounder, Kuldeep Yadav bagged 2 wickets for just 33 runs.

Their excellent performance played a key role in bowling out the West Indies for 171 in 19.1 overs on a batting-friendly wicket.

India achieved the target of 172 in 14.4 overs

While chasing 172, India lost wickets in quick succession. At one stage, Team India were 35,/2 then Shreyas Iyer took the charge; he cracked an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls with 10 fours and 6 sixes at a strike rate of 237.21. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan gave him good support by scoring 37 off 27 balls with 137.4 strike rate. He hit 5 fours. The fantastic performance from the Indian T20 captain assisted the Men in Blue in chasing down the target in 14.4 overs. Iyer claimed the player of the match award for his first international T20 century. After this, all the remaining 4 T20I contests are going to be really interesting for fans.
