Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be in contention for India’s ODI squad for the upcoming New Zealand series and ODI World Cup. His recent performances in the IPL have once again brought his name into the discussion.
Ravichandran Ashwin believes Bhuvneshwar could earn a place in India’s World Cup squad. He feels strong performances in New Zealand could improve the pacer’s chances. However, he picked up only 2 wickets in 8 ODI games in South Africa.
Ashwin also believes Bhuvneshwar could potentially travel to the World Cup alongside Jasprit Bumrah. However, his numbers in South Africa have not been very impressive.
Bhuvneshwar last played an ODI for India on January 21, 2022. He featured against South Africa at Paarl in his previous ODI appearance.
The experienced pacer has played 121 ODIs for India and taken 141 wickets. He has maintained a bowling average of 35.11 in the format.
Bhuvneshwar made his ODI debut against Pakistan on December 30, 2012. His first ODI appearance came at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The veteran pacer also enjoyed a productive IPL 2026 campaign. He picked up 28 wickets from 16 matches while maintaining an economy rate of 7.95.
India are scheduled to play five ODIs against New Zealand in November 2026. The series could provide Bhuvneshwar with an important opportunity to prove his match fitness and bowling form.
With his experience, swing bowling and recent IPL performances, Bhuvneshwar remains an interesting option for India. His performances against New Zealand could play a key role in his comeback hopes.
