Team India's current head coach Gautam Gambhir posted a heartwarming message on social Media while giving credit to Ajit Agarkar valuable contribution as chief selector. His tenure as India’s chief selector officially ended on October 4, 2026, after taking this position in July 2023.

Board of Control and Cricket in India(BCCI) has opened applications for one spot in the Men’s selection committee. Indian former player Pragyan Ojha is now the interim chief selector of the Indian cricket team. He played 18 ODIs, 6 T20S and 24 Tests for India.
Ajit Agarkar Performance as BCCI Chief Selector
Under the working period as a selector, India qualified for the 2023 World Cup final under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, then won the ICC T20 World Cup in June 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2026, led by former India captain, in March 2025. Apart from these two Asia Cup titles, as well in 2023 and 2025 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav.
It also includes the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup in March 2026, and the Asian Games Gold Medal win in Japan later this month. Overall, it has been a great tenure for him as a chief selector.
Pragyan Ojha has been given the role of assessing players for the upcoming series against New Zealand with the selection committee.
Ojha, Ajay Ratra, RP Singh and Shiv Sundar Das are currently on the BCCI Selection Committee. According to reports, BCCI is currently looking for Agarkar’s replacement from the West Zone. The Upcoming selector will manage the role in long-term squad planning, finding talented players and focusing on domestic cricket and some other jobs as well.
To be eligible, applicants must have featured in at least seven Tests, 30 first-class matches, or 10 ODIs in addition to 20 first-class games. They must also have been retired from international cricket in all formats for at least five years, with the deadline for applications set for October 14.
