Smriti Mandhana is now the new captain of India in Tests, ODI and T20Is. Star opening batter Smriti will start her tenure as full-time captain of the India women’s team with the three-match T20 and ODI series vs Zimbabwe.
This decision came when Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down as India captain across all 3 format on Tuesday.
Under Kaur’s leadership, the Indian women’s cricket team clinched the 2025 ODI World Cup and Asian Games Gold Medals in 2022 and 2026, and the Asia Cup in 2012, 2016, 2022 and 2026. Apart from this, she was the first captain to win a Test match at the Iconic Lord’s cricket ground.
Harmanpreet will continue to play for India and has been selected in the upcoming T20I and ODI vs Zimbabwe.
Smriti Mandhana on India’s captaincy role:
After getting the opportunity to lead India at the highest level in a full-time role, Smriti said I understand the responsibility that comes with the role and look forward to working with the team, learning along the way and giving my best to take Indian cricket forward. Mandhana led Women in Blue in 18 T20Is and 4 ODIs, winning 11, losing 7 and maintaining an excellent ODI record. She clinched victories in all 4 contests.
India Women vs Zimbabwe upcoming series schedule 2026:
The 1st T20 between India and Zimbabwe will start on October 16 this month, followed by the 2nd T20 on October 18 and October 20.
Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, Raipur, will host all 3 games. After this short format, both teams will play a three-game ODI series. BCA Stadium, Kotambi, Vadodara, will host all the games of the series on October 23, 25 and 28.
