Yuzvendra Chahal’s ‘The Last Dance’ Post at Lord’s Sparks Retirement Buzz

Yuzvendra Chahal has sparked plenty of discussion among cricket fans after sharing a cryptic post from Lord’s with the caption “The Last Dance 🤙” on Wednesday.

The India leg-spinner posted photographs from the iconic London venue, with the short caption immediately drawing attention because of his long absence from international cricket.

Chahal set for Lord’s appearance with Northamptonshire

The timing of the post is particularly interesting because Chahal is part of Northamptonshire’s squad for their County Championship Division Two fixture against Middlesex at Lord’s on September 24.

Northamptonshire have retained Chahal for the second half of their 2026 season after he impressed during previous spells with the county. The leg-spinner has been one of their key performers in recent weeks, including a four-wicket haul against Worcestershire and a nine-wicket match haul against Durham.

Northamptonshire’s final Championship fixture of the season could therefore provide some context to Chahal’s “The Last Dance” caption, although he has not explained what he meant by the phrase.

Chahal’s India career on hold

Chahal has not played for India since 2023. His last ODI appearance came against New Zealand in January 2023, while his final T20I was against the West Indies in August that year.

He finished his international career to date with 121 ODI wickets and 96 T20I wickets from 72 ODIs and 80 T20Is. He was also part of India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup but did not play a match.

Since losing his place in the international setup, Chahal has remained active in franchise and county cricket. He returned to Northamptonshire for the 2026 season, with the club confirming his availability for both the One-Day Cup and County Championship.

The 36-year-old has also continued to produce significant performances in England. His recent run included the nine-wicket haul against Durham followed by another five-wicket match haul against Worcestershire.

For now, Chahal’s Lord’s post has created an intriguing talking point ahead of Northamptonshire’s final Championship game of the season. Whether “The Last Dance” refers to his Lord’s appearance, the county season or something bigger remains for Chahal to clarify.
