Indian captain Shubman Gill has won the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for September 2026. He received the award after scoring 333 runs in the first two ODIs against the West Indies.
Gill scored 110 runs off 108 balls in the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram. He followed it with an unbeaten 223 off 133 balls in the second ODI in Guwahati. His double century included 26 fours and eight sixes.
With this achievement, Gill has won the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for the fifth time. He now holds the record for the most wins in the men's category.
Gill's performances helped India win both matches by eight wickets. His unbeaten 223 also became the fastest double century in ODI history and the highest individual score in a successful ODI run chase.
Shubman Gill made his ODI debut against New Zealand on January 31, 2019. He made his Test debut against Australia on December 26, 2020, before making his T20I debut against Sri Lanka on January 3, 2023. Gill became India's Test captain in May 2025 and was appointed ODI captain in October 2025. He is one of the finest batters in world cricket. In the past few years, he has played many match-winning knocks for India. That is why he is now the No.1 batter in Team India in ODI.
Gill's next major challenge will be India's tour of New Zealand ODI and Test series. Starting on October 22, 2026. The tour includes five T20Is, five ODIs and two Test matches. The ODI series will be particularly important as India prepares for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. Gill will aim to maintain his batting form and deliver consistent performances in the 50-over format. Gill is currently not playing T20 for India.
