The Asia Cup has been the setting for the sharpest of these. At Dubai in August 2022 Afghanistan bowled Sri Lanka out for 105 and won by eight wickets with more than five overs unused, Fazalhaq Farooqi taking 3 for 11 - and Sri Lanka went on to win the tournament anyway.
The Dambulla series in February 2024 was the best of the fixture: Sri Lanka won the first two by four runs and 72, Afghanistan the third by three after posting 209 for 5. Nuwan Thushara has twice taken four in an innings against Afghanistan, at Hangzhou in 2023 and Abu Dhabi in 2025.
