Australia vs England Head to Head in T20I Cricket

Australia and England have met 26 times in T20 Internationals, the first in 2005 and the latest on 13 September 2024. Australia have won 12 and England 12, with 2 ending without a result. Neither side leads - they are level on 12 wins apiece, which makes this one of the most evenly balanced T20I rivalries in the game. Australia's highest total against England is 248 and England's is 221. Their lowest completed totals are 79 and 111. Every result is in the table above, with the venue and the margin. Updated 9 September, 2026.

They met in the format almost as soon as it existed. Their first T20I, at the Rose Bowl on 13 June 2005, was the first played in England and only the third contested by full members, and it was treated as something close to a lark. England won by 100 runs after Australia were bowled out for 79 - still the lowest total either has made here. Australia turned it around at the SCG in January 2007 with 221 for 5, and the fixture has been what it is ever since: high scoring, tight, and rarely one-sided for long.

The biggest occasion the two have shared came at Kensington Oval on 16 May 2010, in the World T20 final. Australia were held to 147 for 6 and England knocked it off with seven wickets and three overs in hand, taking their first global title in any format. Australia have had the better of the World Cup meetings since, though England beat them by eight wickets at Dubai in 2021 and by eight runs at Perth in 2022 in a rain-shortened game that helped decide the group.

Both scoring peaks belong to Southampton. Australia's 248 for 6 there in August 2013, with Aaron Finch making 156, was the highest total in all T20I cricket at the time and is still the biggest in this fixture; England's 221 for 5 at Edgbaston in 2018 is their own best against Australia.

What the record does not show is how many of these games have gone to the wire. England by one wicket at Adelaide in 2011, Australia by four runs at Melbourne three days later, England by two runs at Southampton in 2020. The most recent, at Cardiff in September 2024, followed the script exactly - England home by three wickets with a ball to spare.
