Australia vs India Head to Head in T20I Cricket
Australia and India have met 37 times in T20 Internationals, the first in 2007 and the latest on 8 November 2025. India have won 22 and Australia 12, with 3 ending without a result. India lead by 10. Australia's highest total against India is 225 and India's is 235. Their lowest completed totals are 86 and 74. Dates, venues and margins for all of them are in the table above. Updated 30 August, 2026.
It began on the biggest stage available: the semi-final of the first World T20, at Kingsmead on 22 September 2007, Yuvraj Singh 70 from 30 balls, India through by 15 runs and on their way to the title. Australia hit back hard at the MCG five months later, dismissing India for 74 - still the lowest total in the fixture - and winning by nine wickets inside 12 overs.
India have been the better side over time, and particularly at home, where the short square boundaries and true pitches suit them. The three biggest totals here have all been made in India: 235 for 4 at Thiruvananthapuram in November 2023, 222 for 3 at Guwahati five days later, and Australia's 225 for 5 in reply at Guwahati, which remains the highest successful chase either has managed against the other. India's most emphatic year was 2016 - four meetings, four wins, three of them in Australia in January and the fourth at Mohali in the World T20.
Recent World Cups have gone the same way. At Gros Islet in June 2024 India posted 205 for 5 and won by 24 runs in a Super Eight match on the way to the trophy. Australia's best run came across 2018 and 2019, when they took three of the five played, two of them chases finished with two balls to spare.
The most recent series, in Australia in October and November 2025, went 2-1 to India with two games abandoned. The widest margin in it was India's 48-run win in Queensland, where Australia were bowled out for 119.
