Mohammed Shami Could Return for New Zealand ODI Series:
According to reports, India's upcoming ODI series against New Zealand could provide Shami with an opportunity to make his international comeback. The selectors are yet to confirm the squad, and his inclusion will depend on his recent performances, fitness and the team's requirements. However, his experience and record in international cricket could strengthen India's pace-bowling attack if he receives a call-up.
Shami has not played an international match for India since March 2025. His last ODI appearance came against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final on March 9, 2025, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. He took one wicket in that match as India secured the title.
Mohammed Shami's ODI Records:
Shami has established himself as one of India's most effective fast bowlers in ODI cricket. He has taken 206 wickets in 108 ODI matches, demonstrating his ability to deliver consistent performances against top international teams.
The fast bowler was India's leading wicket-taker at the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, finishing the tournament with 24 wickets in just seven matches. His outstanding performance played a major role in India's journey to the final. Shami also recorded the best bowling figures of 7/57 against New Zealand during the semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
With his experience, wicket-taking ability and continued efforts in domestic cricket, Shami remains a potential option for India's upcoming ODI assignments. However, his return for the New Zealand series will depend on the selectors' final decision.
