Afghanistan vs South Africa Head to Head in ODI Cricket
Afghanistan and South Africa have played 6 One Day Internationals, the first in 2019 and the latest on 21 February 2025. South Africa have won 4 and Afghanistan 2. Afghanistan's highest total against South Africa is 311, South Africa's 315. The lowest completed totals are 125 and 106. The table above carries every result. Updated 9 September, 2026.
Cardiff in the 2019 World Cup was a nine-wicket walkover, Imran Tahir taking 4 for 29 as Afghanistan were bowled out for 125. Ahmedabad in 2023 was much closer - South Africa five down chasing 245 - but still went the same way.
Sharjah in September 2024 changed the shape of the fixture. Afghanistan bowled South Africa out for 106 to win the first by six wickets, then made 311 for 4 with Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring 105 and Rashid Khan taking 5 for 19 to win the second by 177. It was Afghanistan's first bilateral ODI series win over a side that had won a global trophy, and only South Africa's consolation in the third match kept the margin to 2-1.
South Africa have answered since, winning at the 2025 Champions Trophy behind Ryan Rickelton's 103.
