Ireland played their inaugural Test match against Pakistan at Malahide in May 2018, becoming the eleventh Test nation alongside Afghanistan. Rain washed out the first day, Pakistan made 310 and bowled Ireland out for 130, and Ireland followed on 180 behind.
What came next is the part Irish cricket remembers. Kevin O'Brien made 118 - the first Test century by an Irish batter - and Ireland reached 339 to set Pakistan 160. Pakistan lost five wickets getting there and won with a day to spare, but a side playing its first Test had taken the match into its final session.
