Australia vs South Africa Head to Head in T20I Cricket
Australia and South Africa have played 28 T20 International matches against each other, the first in 2006 and the latest on 16 August 2025. Australia have won 19 and South Africa 9. Australia lead by 10. Australia's highest total against South Africa is 226 and South Africa's is 218. Their lowest completed totals are 157 and 89. You will find the complete list above - dates, venues, winners, margins. Updated 25 August, 2026.
The Test and one-day records between these two are close. This one is not. Their first meeting, at the Gabba on 9 January 2006, set the tone - Australia 209 for 3, South Africa bowled out for 114, a 95-run win - and Australia have taken the majority of the matches since, particularly through the 2010s and into the 2020s.
The heaviest scoring has come in South Africa. Australia's 226 for 6 at Kingsmead in August 2023 is the biggest total has been made in this fixture, made on the way to a 111-run win, and Australia took the three-match series that followed 3-0. South Africa's best answer came at Darwin in August 2025, 218 for 7 and a win by 53 runs.
The two have met less often at World Cups than their Test and ODI histories would suggest, and the bilateral series between them tend to be short and bolted on to longer tours. That makes the fixture unusually streaky - runs of three or four straight wins by one side are the norm here rather than the exception.
