England won the first nine Tests between the two, starting at Dhaka in October 2003. Several were closer than the results suggest - Bangladesh had England 155 for 6 chasing 209 at Chattogram in 2010 - but the pattern held until October 2016, when Bangladesh finally broke it in the second Test at Mirpur.

That match was extraordinary. England needed 273 and were 100 for 0. They were then bowled out for 164 in a single session, the off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz taking 6 for 77 to finish with 19 wickets in his first two Tests. Bangladesh won by 108 runs for their first Test victory over England.

The two have not met in the format since. England's tours of Bangladesh have become white-ball affairs.
